Expedio Magento performance, 2x faster.
Expedio speeds up how Magento builds every page. Same store, same design, no replatforming.
NewNow open sourceExpedio is now open sourceWhat Expedio is and how it improves Magento performance
Expedio works under your theme, in the server-side work that builds each page. Your Hyvä or Luma storefront, design and data stay as they are.
Faster response time, all page types
Median of eight page types, peak traffic.
Homepage response time
Stock Magento: 519 ms, same server.
More traffic on the same server
Before response times start to rise.
Faster with all caches empty
Category page: 57 ms vs 181 ms.
Why merchants leave, and what Expedio borrows from Shopify
Merchants who leave Magento for Shopify usually leave for a faster storefront. Expedio brings the best of Shopify's theme technology to Magento, so the store you already run gets that speed.
It is built on Liquid, the open-source template language created by Shopify's co-founder and used in Shopify themes, applied to how Magento builds a page.
Why Magento gets slow, and which half Expedio fixes
Before a shopper sees anything, Magento's server builds the whole page by running code and database queries. That build is slow, and a theme or cache doesn't fix it.
Every Magento page is made in two steps. Most Magento performance issues sit in the first.
- Step 1The server builds the pageExpedio speeds up this step
- Step 2The browser draws the pageHyvä or a lighter theme speeds up this step
Magento full page cache does not help pages it has not saved, like filtered categories or logged-in shoppers.

Magento performance benchmark: Expedio vs stock Magento
One real merchant's store, measured twice on the same server, with no page cache in front of either.
Response time: peak traffic
Median response time per page type, at the traffic where stock Magento began to strain. Bars replay each response four times slower.
Median time to first byte, no page cache. 1,000 ms is one second.

Questions about Expedio and Magento performance
What is the difference between Expedio and Hyvä?
They speed up different halves of loading a page. First, your server builds the page and starts sending it: that wait is the time to first byte, and it is what Expedio makes faster. Then the shopper's browser turns that page into something they can see and use: that is what Hyvä makes faster. Hyvä is the frontend, Expedio is the backend, and a store can run both.
Does Expedio only work with Hyvä?
No. Expedio works on Magento's backend, so it speeds up a store on any theme, including Luma and custom themes. Hyvä on the frontend with Expedio on the backend is the fastest Magento setup you can run.
Which Magento versions does Expedio work with?
Magento 2, including Magento Open Source, Adobe Commerce, and Adobe Commerce Cloud. It does not work with Magento 1.
Do I need to change my hosting?
No. Expedio works with any Magento hosting. The quickest way to get it is on ReadyMage, scandiweb's Magento hosting, where Expedio is built in and can be switched on for your store.
What is ReadyMage?
ReadyMage is scandiweb's hosting built only for Magento. Its servers use high-frequency CPUs and low-latency storage, with the database, search, and cache on the same machine. Expedio makes a Magento store at least twice as fast on any hosting, and on ReadyMage it is faster still. ReadyMage for the server, Expedio for the backend, and Hyvä for the frontend is as fast as Magento gets today.
What changes for my team?
Nothing they work with. The admin, catalog, prices, checkout, orders, and the storefront design stay as they are.
How much faster will my store get?
At least 2x. In the benchmark, the median page type answered 6.4x faster at peak traffic, and the homepage answered in 20 ms instead of 519 ms. The live demo shows the same store side by side.
Is Expedio open source?
Yes. The Expedio core is open source, built by scandiweb for the Magento community.
What is Ari?
Ari is the first agent for Magento, built by scandiweb. You ask for a change to your store in chat, Ari builds it on a copy of your store, and your team reviews and releases it. Expedio is available on withari.ai, Ari's website.
