Spinola Gaming is a leading provider of software solutions for global lottery operators. Since entering the iGaming industry in 2016, they have set the standard in online lotteries, offering products such as custom lotteries, scratch cards, and multimillion-euro jackpots. Business needs and goals

scandiweb had previously developed a Magento-based website for Spinola, designed to streamline the onboarding of new lotteries and allow for the customization of each site to suit specific client needs. These websites enable customers to effortlessly purchase lottery tickets online, providing a seamless user experience.

Spinola Gaming sought to expand its reach beyond online lottery ticket sales to include physical and mobile POS terminals. Their primary goal was to enable lottery resellers to sell tickets in real time through a system that could be seamlessly integrated with their existing infrastructure. They also wanted to ensure that this solution could work efficiently, regardless of internet connectivity, while providing future scalability for additional features like barcode scanning and printing.

Approach and solutions

To meet Spinola’s immediate need for a lottery ticket sales system through physical POS terminals, scandiweb developed a wrapper app. 

Initially, the idea was to create a mobile website, but this approach limited hardware control, such as printing tickets and scanning barcodes. To overcome these limitations, the team opted for a wrapper app that used the mobile website as the user interface but enabled native interaction with POS hardware like printers and barcode scanners. 

This solution was tailored specifically to Spinola’s POS devices, ensuring a smooth integration with their existing infrastructure. The wrapper app allowed retailers to perform essential tasks—such as one-click printing and barcode scanning—quickly and efficiently, all while meeting tight project deadlines.

By leveraging scandiweb’s expertise in PWA and React, the development of the wrapper app was streamlined, enabling Spinola to launch a functional POS solution on time. This approach ensured the app could handle real-time lottery ticket sales while being future-proofed for potential hardware expansions.

Results

The deployment of the wrapper app successfully enabled Spinola’s lottery retailers to expand their operations by offering seamless ticket sales through mobile POS terminals. With real-time sales capabilities integrated into the system, retailers were able to increase both their customer reach and ticket sales.
