We have spent a long time on that last part.
On a store a merchant runs today, with the same design and the same Magento behind it, we made it 2x faster. That store is now faster than Shopify. Nothing was rebuilt and nobody re-platformed.
We are not going to explain how here.
This industry has been promised a faster Magento before, and each time the promise arrived as an article first and a rebuild second. You would be right to question our claim as well.
