LegacyBridge joins OperaLayer as scandiweb expands in two connected directions: deeper into backend integration and closer to customers through bespoke experiences, customer data, and personalization.
scandiweb has announced the acquisition of LegacyBridge, an AI-powered workflow automation product for IBM i, commonly known as AS/400, following successful deployments with three existing customers. LegacyBridge will become part of OperaLayer, a scandiweb product that improves operations across existing business systems without replacing their core technology.
The acquisition connects two parts of scandiweb’s strategy. The company is moving closer to customers through bespoke storefronts, content, email, customer data platforms and personalization, while going deeper into the backend systems that determine price, stock, orders and delivery. Customers experience a brand through its storefront, blog, email, service desk or physical store, but every promise made there depends on the systems behind it. A better interface alone cannot create a better experience if the backend cannot support what it promises.
Personalization is not putting a customer’s name on a banner. It is showing the right product at the right price, knowing that it is in stock, and giving a delivery promise the business can keep. The customer-facing surface makes the promise, but the backend has to keep it. We are moving closer to the customer and deeper into the backend because, in real commerce, these are two parts of the same experience.

Many scandiweb customers rely on core systems that contain decades of business rules and operational knowledge. Replacing such an ERP can be open-heart surgery on a running business. OperaLayer adds missing views, workflows, predictions, and automations around systems that still perform their core job well.
LegacyBridge extends OperaLayer into IBM i and AS/400 environments where a practical API may not exist. Previously, employees opened incoming orders, invoices, or shipping documents, read every field, navigated through green-screen menus, and retyped the information. LegacyBridge receives the documents through email, SFTP, or an API, uses OCR and computer vision to extract the required fields, and enters validated data through the same TN5250 screens. Uncertain cases go to a person, while every action is recorded in a tamper-evident audit trail. The combined roadmap will extend this approach to speech-to-text and other unstructured input.
Before the acquisition, scandiweb deployed LegacyBridge across three customer environments.
For one customer, the first AS/400 workflow went live in two weeks and now processes more than 10,000 incoming documents each month. Each document previously required 10 to 15 minutes of manual work. LegacyBridge completes the same entry in under 10 seconds, with employees reviewing only exceptions. This reduced processing time by more than 98%, removed at least 1,600 hours of repetitive work each month, sharply reduced entry errors, and created a complete audit trail from the original document to the final AS/400 record. Operational data also reaches the system much sooner, giving teams fresher information for planning and decision-making.
LegacyBridge changed not only how much work our team had to do, but how quickly the whole company could see what was happening. More than 10,000 documents a month now reach AS/400 in seconds instead of waiting in a manual-entry queue. Our people focus on exceptions, errors have fallen, every entry is traceable, and managers make decisions using current data.
Operations Director from one of the three customer deployments
LegacyBridge founder Dmitry Tarasov will remain CTO and Project Leader of LegacyBridge within scandiweb, responsible for its product and technical direction.
AS/400 systems are still running because they often do their core job reliably and contain business rules accumulated over decades. LegacyBridge does not ask a company to throw that away. It reads the document, works through the same TN5250 screens as an operator, and gives the repetitive entry to software while people remain in control of exceptions and approvals. Joining scandiweb gives us the enterprise delivery and customer reach to apply this much more widely.

The timing also matters. Many of the people who know these systems best are approaching retirement, while transaction volumes and customer expectations continue to rise. At the same time, advances in AI make it practical to understand variable documents and older screens that conventional integrations and template-based automation could not handle reliably.
The acquisition is also intended to help LegacyBridge scale across scandiweb’s portfolio of more than 100 active customers. That portfolio includes Puma, The New York Times, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Boy Scouts of America, the University of Michigan, Samsung, and automotive brands including BMW and Jaguar Land Rover. Many of these organizations run complex, long-standing backend systems, making LegacyBridge and OperaLayer directly relevant to their operations. scandiweb will support this expansion with an enterprise delivery approach backed by four ISO certifications: ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO/IEC 27001 for information security, ISO/IEC 27017 for cloud security and ISO/IEC 42001 for AI management systems.
scandiweb is now inviting enterprises running IBM i or AS/400 to select one high-friction document-to-system workflow for a controlled two-week pilot. The pilot runs with the customer’s own documents and system, can keep human approval in place for every submission, and measures processing speed, manual work removed, error reduction, auditability and how much faster reliable data becomes available for decisions before the customer decides whether to expand.

About LegacyBridge
LegacyBridge automates document entry into IBM i and AS/400 terminal systems. It reads incoming documents, validates extracted information, and enters it through existing TN5250 screens, leaving the underlying application and business logic in place.
