What is the meaning behind the name “scandiweb”?

The company was first called "majaslapa.lv" (in English – “website.lv”). The name change to scandiweb occurred later on to better capture the international market. The company required a name that would be easy to remember and competitive globally. The name was inspired by the Northern countries. While we are not Scandinavians, our goal is to emulate their success, thus giving rise to the name “scandiweb”.

What are the working hours and days?

We work from Monday to Friday, with exceptions for national holidays. The full-time working week consists of 40 hours.

The official working hours are from 9 AM to 6 PM Riga time (GMT+3/GMT+2), but there is a certain level of flexibility, meaning it is possible to start earlier or finish later if needed. Working hour flexibility is subject to role requirements and can vary depending on the employee's role and project. It applies to both full-time and part-time colleagues.

In general, we offer employment to remote candidates if their abroad location timezone is within 6 hours of scandiweb headquarters (Riga, Latvia).

I live in a country with more than a six-hour time difference. Can I work in scandiweb?

We can proceed with the recruitment process if the hour difference is not more than 6 hours from scandiweb headquarters (Riga). If the time difference is significant, we will not initiate the recruitment process due to compatibility issues.

Do you offer remote work?

In Latvia, scandiweb offers a hybrid model. The amount of the on-site days can be agreed upon with the specific stream’s manager. We suggest suggest the first months during the probation period are best to be on-site to grasp the feeling of scandiweb community. Later on the hybrid model is available to all Latvian employees.

We also have an office in Georgia, Tbilisi, though we keep on-site working optional instead of mandatory. Finally, for remote colleagues from other countries, we offer full-time remote work.

Important to note – we offer employment to remote candidates if their abroad location timezone is within 6 hours of scandiweb headquarters (Riga, Latvia).

Which countries are scandiweb employees from?

We have employees from approximately 30+ countries, including Latvia, Georgia, Egypt, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Greece, Albania, and many others.

In which countries do you recruit?

We always specify our locations in our job descriptions. Mostly, our recruitment happens in the Baltic states, Central and Eastern Europe, Georgia, Egypt, Morocco, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.

I live in a country where scandiweb does not recruit, but I want to apply anyway. Can I be a contractor?

There are rare occasions when we hire candidates from countries we do not outreach. If such case occurs, we always prioritize the submitted CV and if the mentioned skills and experience matches our requirements, and they are proven in a test assignment. we are open to offer a contractor/sole proprietor option.

We have legal entities in Georgia and Latvia. In these countries, employees are under the company's legalities.

What language do you use for work?

As an international company, we use English as our core language for communication. To understand trusted tasks and freely communicate confident English skills are necessary.

Do you provide hardware?

If you are joining scandiweb remotely you will need to have your own hardware setup.

If you join us as a Developer, you must have:

Ubuntu (Linux) operating system for work. If you want to keep Windows, it is viable to install Ubuntu alongside it (dual boot) instead of using Virtualbox, WSL, or any other method.
It is recommended to have a CPU i5 or AMD equivalent, SSD with 512GB, and 16GB of RAM.

After the probation period, it is possible to arrange support for a hardware upgrade.

What support can I have for hardware upgrades?

After the probation period, scandiweb will evaluate your chosen specifications, and if they fit the necessary specifics for work needs, the company will cover 400 EUR per year.

Can I apply if I do not have any work experience as a developer?

Yes! Since we recruit people with starting knowledge, one of the most important steps in our recruitment process is a test assignment. It is a mandatory step in our recruitment process to evaluate your suitability for the developer position. After you have successfully passed the test assignment, we will continue with a technical interview. Finally, we welcome the best candidates who have passed all the stages to our team.

What programming languages do you use?

Our developers use PHP, HTML, CSS, jQuery, MySQL, React.js, GraphQL, and JS. Also, scandiweb developers are welcome to use AI programming tools to enhance the productivity in programming.

What is the application process in scandiweb?

The first stage is CV and application form screening in which the recruiter reviews if the application matches position’s requirements. Usually, the next step is completing a test assignment; however, for more senior roles we proceed with an introduction call first and then we require a completed test task.

After successfully passing the test assignment, we conduct a final interview with the hiring manager.

How long is the hiring process?

Each position's hiring process can differ in length due to its specifications. Usually it can take up to 6–7 weeks.

Is the video recording mandatory in the application form?

English evaluation is an important step in our recruitment process. Since scandiweb is an international agency, English is our core communication language within the company and with clients. We require a video with the read paragraph to be sure not only about your English writing skills but also to hear you speak this language. It helps us evaluate your suitability for the position better.

What if I am not able to do the video recording due to physical abilities?

If your physical abilities prevent you from recording the video, contact us via email at [email protected] by explaining your situation, and we will find a suitable solution.

Can I be rejected from the position in the recruitment process? Can I reapply again?

Yes, you can be rejected at any stage in the recruitment process. At the end of the recruitment process, we select only the best candidates.

It is possible to apply once more after 6 months after your rejection. Please note that reapplication is restricted to one additional attempt.

How do I know if I am rejected?

In case your application is rejected, you will receive a notification from our recruitment team that scandiweb is not proceeding with your application further.

Do you have a test assignment for every position?

At scandiweb, a test assignment within our recruitment process is a common practice applied to the majority of positions.

We perceive these assignments as an opportunity to gain insights into candidates' capabilities and their alignment with the role. For each vacancy, the test is specifically made to showcase if the candidate has the qualities and skills that the position requires, as well as to give the candidate a chance to understand if the tasks that this vacancy offers would suit their aspirations and requirements.

Where can I find the test assignment?

After you have applied to one of our job openings and we want to proceed with your candidacy, our recruiter will contact you about the following steps. This email will include a test assignment that will be found in this sentence: “Please find tasks HERE”. In the received email, please click on the HERE part to access the test assignment.

What happens if I do not pass the test assignment?

If you don't pass the test assignment, we will inform you that we are closing the recruitment process for your application.
